About this live event

This continuing education event engages Play Therapists in developing a critical anti-oppressive lens to renovate their Play Therapy practice. The presentation teaches techniques for the integration of liberatory mental health concepts into Play Therapy. Culturally responsive skills and methods of Play Therapy wil lbe discussed specifically for supporting clients and families that have experienced historical oppression and marginalization. Participants will learn through lecture, video demonstration, interactive practice, case review, and large group discussion. Completion of a Post-test and Evaluation is required for participants to receive CE credit.

Learning Objectives

1. Apply critical consciousness to self-reflect and examine one’s own practice for cultural bias and responsiveness.

2. Identify and assess impacts of racial stress and trauma in clients.

3. Identify and confront white supremacy culture embedded in Play therapy practice setting and organizational policies.

4. Discuss integration of liberation psychology and Play thearpy to enhance resiliency in clients.

5. Practice strategies to empower clients through celebration of intersectional identity.

6. Discuss therapeutic benefits of adopting a liberatory approach when working with clients of different cultural backgrounds.
