Assignment Packet for Non-Contact Play Therapy CE Credit

Participants that purchase a Season Pass are eligible to complete the following 6 homework assignments and submit them by the due date to receive non-contact Continuing Education Hours. Homework assignments are usedto broaden participants' learning and ensure that the theoretical depth criterion of APT's Standards for RPT's is met.

The theoretical depth criterion requires that at least 25 of the 150 hours of Play Therapy Continuing Education be inone historically significant theory. To meet this requirement participants are asked to complete homework assignments with a focus on one major

theoretical orientation of Play Therapy. A Time for Play offers an introductory exposure to all nine historically significant theories. However, attending all live CE presentations is not sufficient in and of itself to meet the theoretical depth criterion. Season Pass participants must complete all homework assignments to finish the season with the minimum 150 hours of Continuing Education credit required to apply to become a Registered Play Therapist.

Participants are responsible for completing the assignments according to the instructions and submitting them prior to the due date. All assignments will be graded on a Pass/Fail basis according to the associated rubric.

Late assignments will not be accepted.

Participants that fail to submit assignments before the due date forfeit these credit hours.

Assignment 1 – Book Review

 Assignment Instructions:

Select a book from the approved list below and a write a 3-page paper on the following:

1.    Summarize the primary theories mentioned in the book?

2.    What are the strengths and limitations of those theories?

3.    How do you see yourself integrate selected theory(ies) in the therapy process? Pleaseprovide case example (without sensitive identifying information)

Submission must be double spaced, 1” margin, and Times New Roman font

Assignment 2 – Practice Video & Reflection Paper 1

 Assignment Instructions:

Record a practice video of you providing play therapy to a child (a client, friend, relative,neighbor, etc.). If the child is an actual client, be sure to obtain consent from the child’s legalguardian).

Write a 2-page reflection paper answering the following questions:

  1. Describe the theory or approach of Play Therapy demonstrated in the session?

  2. List the specific skills or techniques utilized in the session?

  3. Identify the strengths and what you did well in the session?

  4. Identify areas for improvement or things that you would have done differently?

Paper should be double-spaced, 1” margins, using Times New Roman font.

Due October 31, 2026

Assignment 3 – Article Review

 Assignment Instructions:

Select one article from the International Journal of Play Therapy from within the past two years. Write a 2-page paper on the following:

  1. Identify what seminal theories influence the article and the author’s perspective

  2. Describe the skills and methods utilized in the article

  3. Critique the strengths and limitations of the research in article

  4. Analyze how you might incorporate what you learned from this article into real life practice

Paper should be double-spaced, 1” margins, using Times New Roman font.

Due January 31, 2027

Assignment 4 – Practice Video & Reflection Paper 2

Assignment Instructions:

Record a practice video of you providing play therapy to a child (a client, friend, relative,neighbor, etc.). If the child is an actual client, be sure to obtain consent from the child’s legal guardian).

Write a 2-page reflection paper answering the following questions:

  1. Describe the theory or approach of Play Therapy demonstrated in the session

  2. List the specific skills or techniques utilized in the session

  3. Identify the strengths and what you did well in the session

  4. Identify areas for improvement or things that you would have done differently. Compare this recording to the first practice recording

Paper should be double-spaced, 1” margins, using Times New Roman font.

 Due March 31, 2027

Assignment 5 – Ethics Paper

 Assignment Instructions:

Select one Play Therapy case that posed some ethical dilemmas to you. Write a three page paper that answers all of the following:

  1. Describe a short deidentified synopsis of the case and the ethical dilemmas

  2. Describe the ethical dilemmas with specific reference to the Texas State Board rules and regulations and the Association for Play Therapy best practices relevant to the dilemmas

  3. Analyze your process for resolving the dilemmas and specific steps took to weight the various factors

  4. Describe any play therapy theories or any ethical models that were applied to help resolve the dilemma

  5. Summarize what you learned from the experience

Due June 30, 2027

A grading rubric comparing Fail and Pass criteria across five categories: Describe deidentified synopsis of case, describe relevant laws, analyze process for resolving dilemmas, identify theories and ethical models applied, and how to incorporate learning.
